H4R Substances

There have been a number of descriptors and CAS numbers used over a long period of time for rosin and its derivatives. The attached paper and position explains how these have been addressed in the H4R registrations:

H4R position on Rosin as one substance for registration under REACH

H4R have grouped these substances into categories for the purposes of read across and testing programs. The Categories tab of this website includes more information on which substances are grouped into which categories.

H4R Testing Programs

ECHA issued final decision letters for all substances in Categories 1, 2, 3 and 4 and an extensive testing program took place in 2016 to address these issues. Please see this document on testing costs for a detailed explanation:

H4R Communication on Testing Costs

A Phase 2 Testing Program for the categories is expected to take place but is dependent on issuance of ECHA’s next set of Final Decision Letters. Joint registrants will be notified of costs associated with this testing program when the ECHA Final Decision Letters are received, possibly in 2019 or 2020.

In addition, substances in Category 2 underwent testing required by ECHA’s CoRAP process and Tall Oil in Category 8 has undergone testing pursuant to an ECHA Final Decision Letter.
