H4R Analytical Information
The members of the H4R Consortium identified a need for more consistent guidance on the identification Rosin and rosin derivatives in order to meet the requirements of ECHA and substance identification. Together the members created a reference document, 'Identification of Rosin and Rosin Derivatives', which includes information on the most useful methods of analysis. The document has undergone peer review and members of the Consortium and the SIEF.
It is intended as a help to all registrants of rosin and rosin derivatives to enable them to meet the analytical requirements of REACH and ECHA's more recent interpretations.
The index for the document includes:
- Review of analytical techniques for rosin and rosin derivatives
- Infra-Red spectroscopy
- UV-VIS
- 1H-NMR
- Chromatography
- Gas chromatography (GC)
- Liquid chromatography
- Mass spectrometry
Initially the document covered substances in H4R Category 1 (Rosin, hydrogenated Rosin and its salts) and H4R Category 2 (Rosin Esters). It has been updated to include substances in H4R Category 3 (Rosin Adducts and Rosin Adduct Salts), H4R Category 4 (Rosin Adduct Esters) and CAS 91081-53-7 (Rosin, reaction products with formaldehyde).
A model analytical report for Rosins and derivatives is also available. This report aims to show good practice and the elements that ECHA are currently looking for in the analytical section of the dossier.
